"Colin´s piano playing combines technical brilliance and expressiveness with a touching naturalness. It is as if the music speaks through him - not staged, not memorised, but coming from deep within. Colin´s ability to not only play the great works of piano literature, but to narrate them, is particularly remarkable. Whether Beethoven or Chopin, Bach or Schubert, he finds his own truth in every phrase" says curator Rudolf Buchbinder in his laudatory speech on the award of the prestigious Swiss piano prize Prix Serdang 2025 to Colin Pütz.

A major milestone in the career of German pianist Colin Pütz, born in 2007, is his close artistic collaboration with conductor Cristian Măcelaru, who entrusted 14-year- old Colin Pütz with Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto—first with the WDR Symphony Orchestra, and later with the Orchestre National de Radio France. Since then, the two have developed a strong musical partnership.

In November 2022, Colin Pütz performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C major, K. 467 with the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. A year later, in November 2023, he played in Timișoara with the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra. This was followed in March 2024 by Mozart’s Piano Concerto in C minor, K. 491 with the Dresden Philharmonic. Refering to that, the Online Merker noted, Colin Pütz “possesses many pianistic virtues, including those of the great masters of the past and present, which he may carry into the future,” and praised his “intense communication with the orchestra,” which “devotedly wove around his solo part.”

In 2020, Colin Pütz performed as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn under Dirk Kaftan. In 2024, he played Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto in three concerts as part of the Marler Debüt series with the Bergische Symphoniker under György Mészáros.

At age 15, Colin Pütz stepped in on short notice for the ailing Daniel Barenboim at the Pro Constantia Music Festival in Rolandseck. The concert was recorded live and later broadcast by Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

From an early age, he has appeared at major festivals including the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Ruhr Piano Festival, and the Rheingau Music Festival.

In September 2024, he gave his recital debut at the Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven House in Bonn, followed by a solo recital at the Monte Carlo Opera as part of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo’s official season.

From the age of ten, Colin Pütz has been a junior student at the Pre College of the Cologne University of Music and Dance. He participated in masterclasses e.g. with Pavel Gililov, Konstantin Scherbakov, Rena Shereshevskaja, Dmitri Alexeev, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Anti Siirala, Jaques Rouvier, Falko Steinbach. In October 2025 Colin has begun with his bachelor’s degree at HfMT Cologne, in the piano classes of Prof. Florence Millet and Fabian Müller. Colin holds a scholarship at the International Music Academy Liechtenstein.
